What is a catchment area or school zone?
Your local neighbourhood government school, also known as your designated school zone, is typically the government school nearest to your child’s permanent residential address. To find the school you are zoned to, visit the Victorian Government’s Find My School website.
Your child is entitled to enrol at their nearby school as per the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and will be offered a placement upon application.
What schools am I zoned for at Meridian?
There are several schools within the Clyde North school zone ensuring a hassle-free education for your children, including three established specialist schools.
In addition to existing schools in the area, we’re excited that two new government schools will also be opening in Clyde North – one primary and one secondary. These are:
Thompsons West Primary School (interim name) – Opening 2025
Located along Welsummer Drive, Thompsons West Primary will provide education from Prep to Grade 6, and is a fantastic option as a primary school in Clyde North.
Set to open on the first day of Term 1 in 2025, it will help with the growing local population to provide great education close to the residents of Meridian. With a learning hub, hardcourts and a sports field, this school can enrol up to 650 students.
Nicole Walker has been appointed as the principal of Thompsons West and has 35 years of experience in education, leading three government primary schools. Known as an optimistic, passionate, and self-driven leader, she actively fosters school culture and establishes safe, enriching learning environments for all students.
The new school’s name will be selected with input from the local community through the Engage Victoria website. After the consultation process, the Minister for Education will make the ultimate decision on the school’s name, anticipated to be made by early Term 3, 2024.
Clyde North Secondary School (interim name) – Opening 2025
A new high school will be built and completed by Term 1 in 2025. Clyde North Secondary will open to Year 7 students only, and progress with each year after that. Enrolling up to 800 students, the school will include a learning neighbourhood, a community hub, hard courts and a sports field.
With a career spanning 30 years, principal Leanne Winfield will take charge. Passionate about reading, writing and literacy learning, her vision is to help create a life-long love of learning in students so they can grow and reach their potential.
Additional Primary Schools for consideration
St Josephine Bakhita Catholic Primary School at Clyde North aims to provide families with access to a faith-based, modern and affordable primary school, close to their home. Enrolments will begin in Term 4, 2024 and the first Term is expected to commence in 2025.
Primary school age students will also be catered for within the precinct. A conveniently located future government primary school will be a short walk for all Meridian Green residents.
Established Schools
Clyde Grammar
Clyde Grammar is a co-education school just a short drive from Meridian. The school, which opened in 2022, currently offers education from Prep to Grade Four, with plans to expand to Grade 6 organically over the next few years.
The school is also affiliated with Casey Grammar and Balcombe Grammar.
Topirum Primary School
Topirum Primary School is a government school opened in 2024. Providing cutting-edge facilities and an extensive curriculum, the school strives to instil fundamental values such as responsibility, empathy and teamwork in its students.
